Spas around the world are breaking new ground. In California, reservations are being accepted for Napa Valley’s first Four Seasons Resort which, when it opens January 2020, will offer healing vapour steam pods in which hammocks are suspended over geo- thermal pools.

In the Himalayas, a new 10-day travel product from and Beyond allows travellers to immerse themselves in the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. The Bhutan Yoga Retreat Small Group Journey combines yoga, meditation, hiking, healing and holistic sightseeing.

Similarly spiritual, the Viceroy Riviera Maya in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico has its own resident Mayan shaman who has created a signature treatment, Hunan-Kab, which incorporates honey harvested from the resort’s own bees. The medicinal honey is applied using herb compresses soaked in a special tea before guests enjoy a massage in nature next to a waterfall
