Signature Travel Network has announced Cathie Lentz Fryer, president at CTA Travel in Cerritos, Calif., as the 2017 recipient of the Michelle Morgan Leadership Award.

“It is truly an honor to receive the Michelle Morgan Leadership award,” said Cathie Lentz Fryer. “Over 20 years ago when I joined Leisure Travel Group, Michelle took me under her wing and I am the business woman I am today from her mentoring, love and friendship.  She encouraged me to embrace change, grow and prosper, while keeping true to the core values of Signature Travel Network.”

This award honors the memory and work of Michelle Morgan, Signature’s previous president who passed away in September 2013 from acute myeloid leukemia. The award recognizes travel industry professionals who embody the qualities that made Morgan successful in both her professional and personal life.

“I love this annual opportunity to commemorate the remarkable contributions Michelle Morgan made to Signature Travel Network and the entire travel industry,” says Alex Sharpe, Signature’s president and CEO.

Signature Travel Network chose a small group of Morgan’s close friends and family as the award’s selection committee. They identified the following qualities as the determining characteristics for the recipient of the Michelle Morgan Leadership Award:

  • Adaptive and nimble, responsive to an ever-changing business environment
  • Proactive, with a willingness to act decisively, even in difficult circumstances
  • Determined to work towards what is right, even when those choices are not popular
  • Committed and passionate about a cause, be it work or an ideal
  • Ability to empower others to achieve success
  • A great communicator
  • Passionate about people, truly cares about others
  • Humble and always gives credit where credit is due
  • Overcomes adversity

“It is an honor to celebrate Cathie with this award,” continues Sharpe.  “Her many years of service on Signature’s board of directors, the sales and marketing best practices she shares willingly with agencies around the country, and the mentoring of so many new-to-industry professionals who have flourished thanks to her leadership and commitment to their success are just a few of the many selfless acts of service that make Cathie one of the great women of travel.”
