The Sofitel Nusa Dua is one of AccorHotels’ latest flagships in Southeast Asia. As part of an Indonesian fact-finding tour, editor in chief, Richard Barnes visited the property and met with the very convivial general manager, Sylvain Pasdeloup (pictured).
Please tell us a little more about your hotel…
AccorHotels was expanding its Luxury and Upper Brand hotels collection, and among these were the Sofitel brand. The right amount of factors that fell into place led us to finding the great location and resources, which enabled us to deliver our vision. The stars aligned and shortly after, we opened our doors to cater to the APEC Summit back in 2013. This was such a great momentum for us which allowed us the right platform to showcase our five-star standards and world-class qualities. To this moment, we have always been happy and proud to be able to contribute to the development of luxury tourism on the island.
Tell me a bit more about your background and how you came to be at the helm of this great establishment.
I started my career in the hospitality industry in the F&B Department. Prior to joining Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua, I was at Sofitel Mumbai Bandra Kurla where I managed 7 outlets inclusive of the Executive Lounge. I then moved to this wonderful island in December 2013, where I took up the role as Hotel Manager during the opening of this very promising property. From March 2015, I was appointed to the post of General Manager, carrying on with the duties of overseeing the operations of this luxury five-star resort that graces the exotic Nusa Dua coast. I was only 33 at that time, which inevitably made me one of the youngest hoteliers to be appointed to the most prestigious helm position at an international five-star resort
What makes Nusa Dua special as a location within Bali?
Nusa Dua is a luxury tourism and International MICE destination where actually most of the well-established international chain five-star hotels in Bali are located. Having been developed from the get-go as such, the ITDC Tourism Complex provides a secure environment with security around the clock, complete with world-class infrastructures that provide guests staying in the resort area a pleasurable and secure staying experience. Golf courses, shopping and entertainment spots within, pristine stretches of sand nearby, and lush manicured green gardens dotted with Balinese statues and water fountains that are lined by winding pathways, the Nusa Dua complex is the place to be. I can say it’s the best place to stay in Bali.
Yours is very much a “family” destination. Why so?
We believe that our little guests are just as important as our adult guests, and a lot of families do travel together. We have complete facilities for kids, ranging from our well-equipped kids club with outdoor playgrounds and a complete range of indoor activities, and this kids club is just besides our kids’ pool that is quite expansive, with waterslides, fountains and a sandbar area. Our restaurants and our privilege club Millesime Club Lounge have kids’ corners where the little ones can have fun with toys, games and reading materials. We also cater to our little guests with kids’ menus, and they can even unwind at our kids’ spa. Special amenities are also included such as kids’ welcome cards and snacks. We also have plenty of options for activities that families can join together, such as tandem bicycle riding, canoes, beach volleyball and many more.
What are your main source markets and how are they evolving?
Our main markets are the domestic Indonesian market, Australia, China and Europe. Nowadays, Europe, the Middle East and India continue to be growing, which also happens to be our target markets.
Where are you looking to develop in this sense?
We are aiming to gain a bigger share in the International MICE and International Wedding markets. The demand is increasing, and we have the perfect venues and facilities to cater to those needs. Our bespoke Magnifique Meeting is a meeting concept where we deliver very high standard services. We hope to receive a bigger in these segments.
What’s special about your spa?
The SoSPA extensive treatment choices draw inspiration from a French gastronomic restaurant. SoSPA by Sofitel promises a unique personal experience: original music, exclusive signature treatments, massage tables modelled after Sofitel’s famous MyBed concept, and affiliated with undisputed beauty expert and ambassador of the most refined French beauty care, Clarins.
What are the three “USP’s” of your property?
We have the biggest size in entry room level at 48m2, a one and only Beachfront Ballroom. We also have the best variety of group leisure with wellness and sports activities.
