Exploring the role of travel in the modern luxury landscape, the fifteenth edition of ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market) in Cannes was the platform for 5000 luxury travel influencers to come together to highlight “love as the greatest luxury of the world and travel as the mechanism of that love.”
Opening the event on Monday 5 December, the ILTM Global Forum profiled author and psychologist Andrew Solomon who highlighted the guiding principles and motivations that lead people to travel, citing the fact that travel is not only a language but also a liberation. Participants at the show endorsed his views over the following few days:
Leona Reed of Visit California commented: “Travel is most definitely a language and we should explore how intimately this language connects with others. Visit California has connected with many, many high end buyers and media over the course of the last few days of ILTM: it has been a busy, incredible and successful few days and we look forward to building on this success at ILTM 2017.”
Claudine Rubagumya of the Rwanda Development Board added: “As debutantes at ILTM we couldn’t be happier with the outcome of our first ILTM. It is the perfect launch pad for Rwanda and all the exciting projects for 2017 and face-to-face time with buyers – that otherwise we wouldn’t have met – was invaluable.”
Rick Reichsfeld, President of Alpine Adventures, Austria added: “This is our second time at ILTM and the already phenomenal experience was even better: we had 100% new appointments and will certainly be returning for a third year.”
Raj Singh of Ganges Voyager, India said: “After 40 years in the business, we are very pleased to have chosen ILTM in Cannes as our first ever trade show. We found a great diversity of buyers and even new trends – It was the perfect platform to showcase our exciting new projects and we will definitely be returning next year.”
Naomi Mano, CEO and President of Japan’s boutique consultancy Luxurique commented: “At ILTM this week, we have met with buyers and agents who we found have really needed our services and our contacts – a fantastic match-made experience. In addition, the media experience has been ground-breaking for Luxexperience and we look forward to building on this at ILTM Japan, Asia, Americas and Cannes in 2017.”
Limor Decter of Ovation Travel in the US said: “This is my first ILTM and it’s been amazing. I met with fascinating new suppliers and am so glad I came – it’s a big wow!”
Ellen Cavalier, Luxury Travel Advisor, Cassis Travel, USA added: “This has been a great experience and I have met many wonderful people in addition to really lovely properties and experiences. It is so helpful to meet someone and know that they will take care of my clients.”
Joanna Kuflik, Jet With Jo, USA mentioned: “After having been to several shows this year, I can say ILTM in Cannes was top in terms of quality of exhibitors – I was able to solidify all the right connections and design top of the line customised trips for my clients. This show epitomizes what luxury travel is all about.”
Alison Gilmore, ILTM Portfolio Director concluded: “At ILTM this week, we have learnt that if we love everything that we do, love will be returned. We are honoured to have welcomed 1550 of the world’s most incredible luxury travel stories, brands and experiences as well as the most discerning of travel planners and buyers during this week at ILTM. The love and respect they each have for this industry is evident in the incredible business they have built this week, not forgetting the new relationships created and established relationships enhanced. The luxury travel year truly ended on a high at ILTM 2016.”
The ILTM Portfolio continues in 2017 with ILTM Japan in Tokyo, 27 February – 1 March; ILTM Africa in Cape Town, 21 – 23 April, Travelweek Sao Paulo by ILTM in Brazil, 25 – 28 April, ILTM Asia in Shanghai, 5 – 8 June, ILTM Americas in Mexico, 25 – 28 September and returns to Cannes, 4 – 7 December.
