Last year, Dubai total passengers number reached 78 million, a growth of more than 10% over 2015. The airport was the third busiest in the world behind Atlanta and Beijing. However, if international passengers are only accounted, Dubai is already number 1, with some 100 airlines serving over 240 destinations.
The latest addition to the airport is Concourse D, the final element of a US$7.8bn 2020 Strategic Plan. The facility is designed to meet the needs and comfort of passengers with short walking distances to gates. The concourse is linked to the newly renovated Terminal 1 by a dedicated train that can transport 300 passengers per trip.
The new facility is raising Dubai’s capacity from 75 to 90 million passengers a year. The concourse offers some 20 restaurants, a dozen shops and nine lounges.
